Before the pandemic, Louisiana had the 4th highest statewide rate of overall food insecurity in the US, the 4th highest rate of senior food insecurity, and was number #1 with the highest statewide rate of food insecurity among children. Here in Central Louisiana, the situation was already serious, where eight parishes in our Food Bank's service area exceeded the food insecurity rate for the state. Before COVID-19, 11.5% of people in the United States did not have enough to eat. In Central Louisiana, that rate was 17%.
The Food Bank of Central Louisiana relies on the support from our local community to serve our neighbors in need.
